The dictionary defines confidence as certainty and trust put upon yourself and your abilities. Reliability, trust, belief and power are all words that conjure up the image of someone who is confident and what people feel if they are confident. Confidence is something we think, feel and act. It is something that is positive and is something that we all need to engage in. Being confident can be hard for some of us as life’s hardships can knock us down and create negative views upon the world that can seep into every area of our lives. This is why confidence is such an important thing but it is a trait that is different in all of us as we perceive it differently and can affect our lives in numerous ways but these ways will always be positive.
for those who have low levels of confidence life can be much harder and situations, even the most mundane can cause conditions such as anxiety, this can be something you are conscious of or unconscious. We need to be confident as it serves our basic human needs. What this means is that confidence is something that will help all areas of your life to be happy and healthy. Your faith and trust in your abilities is so strong that you are not afraid to take on new challenges, faces problems with a strong and logical mind and meet those personal goals with ease. These qualities are characteristics that will rid anxiety as you view situations in a positive light and for those circumstances that are found hard, resilience breaks through and you will get on with things no matter what. To be confident you will:
1. Have a sense of control over your thoughts, feeling and emotions, this can be achieved with self awareness and questioning and not being afraid to ask.
2. Realise what you have got and be grateful for it. When you do this you will find the positives in your life that can give you the spur you need to carry on and get the other things in your life that you want.
3. You will get and be comfortable with giving and receiving attention, accepting compliments and reaffirming those positive aspects in your life so you can continue to move forward.
4. You gain a sense of purpose and meaning in your life so you can build on goals that will make you lead that happy and healthy life.
5. You will feel safe and loved by yourself and others and you will trust those people that are around you.
6. The decisions you make will be thought about and acted out with huge trust put into it.
7. Resilience is enhanced as you know you can handle what ever is thrown at you in life, forgetting and moving on from your failures quickly and easily.
8. You will make others feel confident as well around you.
9. Your mental and physical state will be healthy and secure, minimising the risk of illness and problems such as anxiety and depression.
10. You will strive to improve your skill set and not be scared to try new things so you are never held back always self improving.
11. You will be rational rather than reactional.
12. Problems will be talked about rather than bottled up.
13. You will always be prepared for what is around the corner as you will know you can handle it.
14. You will find you actually contribute something to the things in your life whether it is work, family, friends or the community.
15. Simply, life will be enjoyed and fulfilled.
For our lives to be what we want them to be, the key is to be confident. This can be easier said than done for some but no matter what your life is like, what has happened to you in the past and what it is you want in the future you can make the changes you need to get to where you want and also help those around you. Practice definitely makes perfect when it comes to confidence, but by taking those small steps towards a positive life confidence can be found and will stay for as long as you let it. Finding confidence and using it will banish anxiety as you will show yourself you can get things done and prove that there is really no reason to worry about what other people think about you, you just have to worry about yourself.
