Life can become mundane very fast and very easily with routine setting in. Our characters, attitudes and emotions can become ignored because of this and we end up leading lives that are unconscious, accepted as they are and taken for granted. This is a huge mistake, as many of us can suffer from conditions such as anxiety where we get stuck in an extremely unhealthy and stagnant rut that effects every part of our lives. However, we can change this.

But the idea and acknowledgement of this change is something that is not realised very easily and our lives are shadowed by a negative view and routine. The list below is an example of the random things you could do to change your life for the better. Not everything will be for you as each and every one of us are completely different. But an idea of the things we could do to change our lives for the better and achieve things we never thought possible can be drawn from these techniques suggested below.

1. Learn a new language:

Not only do you gain a new string to your bow but you will socialise with others being able to communicate in a different way, be able to travel being able to immerse yourself more into the culture of your chosen language and country and u will grow in confidence.

2. Open a page at random:

The more we know the more we will be able to handle different things. Knowledge really is power, so grab any book off the shelf at home, library or even online blogs, articles and research and learn something new at random. You can choose a subject that you have always been interested in or just open a page, any page and see what you find out. Doing this can give you conversation starters, a block to gain a hobby or interest, a higher level of understanding towards things and/or a greater sense of confidence and self esteem as you begin to realise that you have the tools to cope with the things life throws at you.

3. Cut down on the TV:

The TV for some of us has become a part of life that is habitual and seen as a necessity. Unfortunately though whether we like it or not it has taken over our lives a little too much controlling our time and space in the home. Cutting down on TV viewing can be a good thing: Hoe much time do we really waste watching mindless advertisements or TV programmes that are just put on to fill the silent void in the room?.

With things like Sky Plus and TiVo around now there is no need for this and we can ensure we get to watch the programmes we want to and in between we can make the most of our time seeing our friends, reading a book, relaxing in another way that allows you to think, learn something new, go to the gym, talk to your family etc.

4. Get rid of the rubbish:

Our house, minds and lives can become cluttered with bits that are useless or detrimental in some way. We end up hoarding information, memories, objects and possessions that hold no value in our lives anymore. Think about the things that are holding you back and the things in your home that remind you of things in your past that hold no real affection for you anymore and that just stand as clutter. What ever you think of and whether they are physical or mental, get rid of them. Seize the opportunity to make some money on Ebay and clearing your mind of negative thoughts for positive ones. Get the things out of life that you have always wanted; moving forward for the better.

5. See what you want:

There is no right or wrong way to do this but creating a vision or mood board is something that can give you focus and direction. Look up and print off articles, pictures or items you want in your life online, cut out images from articles, write or draw out the things you want in your life at some point, collect items that inspire you in someway and add them all to your board. Make the board in anyway you want but just be honest and put down everything you know you want from life and put it somewhere that you will always see it to remind you not to get distracted with the things in life that will hold you back from getting to where you want to be.

6. Get creative:

Filling our time with mundane, mindless and pointless things is very common and we all do it. TV, Internet, being idle, playing with our mobile phones etc are all things we do that basically waste time. Life is for the living and if we choose to we can maximise our time with getting creative. Start that DIY project, get a hobby knitting, playing a musical instrument, painting, singing or dancing, start training for the marathon next year, climb that mountain, start your own business or go back to school. Starting a new venture will keep you mentally and physically active, giving you a new point of interest and focus.

7. Make yourself over:

We are the first to criticise ourselves about the way we look or dress, this alone is reason enough to give ourselves a make over. Dressing a way that makes you feel confident is not superficial or fake unless you do it for reasons that are not for yourself and not being yourself, don’t worry about what others think but worry about whether you are being true to yourself. Dressing ourselves from top to toe in a way that makes us feel good is a way we can express our characters to others and gain high levels of self esteem.

8. Holiday time:

We all need time to ourselves, so, whether we take 30 minutes a day to relax and take stock or make sure we get away on some sort of break in the year we will feel much better. Taking time out in any way will relax us, give us a chance to ‘breathe’ and see life for what it really is and have fun.

9. Do something good today:

Pay someone a compliment or take a compliment as it will make you and that person happy, do something nice for a person you love, hold a charity event, do some volunteer work, help someone that needs it or just phone that person you keep meaning to and haven’t got round to doing. Doing something that will make another happy will benefit not only them but you. Embrace that feel good factor.

10. Take a picture:

Life can just pass us by without us knowing, it moves so fast that we don’t always keep up and the things we do, the people we meet and the things we see can get missed, ignored and forgotten. Keep a camera with you as much as possible and take those snap shots of your life as a picture really can say a thousand words.

Do things that you would never usually do or things you thought you couldn’t and see how it makes you feel. Positive energy and focus should be something that is embraced and recognised as if you let it, it can and will seep into every other area of your life giving you the boost you need to make the most of life and not be trapped by adversities such as anxiety.
